: alexandra berger :
i graduated from oberlin college in 2004 with a double degree in environmental studies and studio art, my formal training being in marine biology, painting, and woodworking. realizing my interest in glassblowing and design, i traveled to the berkshires to watch some proficient glassblower friends of mine. upon my return to ohio, my good friend and i quickly constructed a sheet metal shed and began working on the torch. since then i have been teaching myself how to achieve desired effects and designs in glass with minimal instruction. at this point, i have been melting glass for about four years.

my artwork is created by way of a technique called lampworking, also referred to as flame working. lampworking, one method of working glass, involves heating glass rods and tubes in the flame of an oxygen/propane-run torch. my designs are always evolving, influenced by my surroundings at any given point. i am currently living in tucson, arizona, working in all sorts of art venues, surrounded by all sorts of great artists.

the images on my site are of works that are one-of-a-kind. i can replicate certain designs, but every piece is subject to variation. please contact me directly for prices or other details. i am happy to take custom orders.

thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work. alex
